The Clarence Valley Photographs by John William Lindt

This collection was gifted to the gallery by Sam and Janet Cullen and Family, by the Friends of the Gallery and Ian and Florence Robinson and forms a group of historically important photographs of the Clarence Valley. Thirty seven of the photographs are studio based portraits with thirty three of them featuring Aboriginal people of the local area.
Lindt was one of the first photographers to use the camera creatively to move beyond recording to make evocative pictures that were referred to as pictorialism. He became recognised nationally and internationally for his artistic contribution to the development of photography.
